Holly Ridge Center (HRC) started working with Bethany, in January 2006, while she was still attending high school. She was due to graduate in June of 2006.
HRC worked with her to find an assessment site. We were able to find her an assessment site at a Retirement Community Center. She worked at this site for twenty working days. She did very well at learning the different task within the food service industry. Bethany decided she would like to work in the food service field, a finer dining facility. She enjoyed volunteering so she decided she would continue volunteering to get school credit. Bethany did graduate in June 2007.
We met approximately one time a week to do job search. “We are not hiring right now”, is what we would hear a lot. Bethany did not give up hope. In January 2007, we met with a manager. She scheduled Bethany for a second interview with the General Manager.
The General Manager, HRC staff, and Bethany brainstormed to come up with duties she could do. What the manager said was she could roll silverware for day and night meals and opening doors for customers.
Her first day of work was January 30, 2007. HRC helped her with learning her job and continues to give ongoing support so she can maintain her job.
