Feeding Evaluation Team

When feeding issues affect your child's health, nutrition or family meal times, the Feeding Evaluation Team at Holly Ridge Center may be able to help.

Our Feeding Evaluation Team is comprised of the highly skilled professionals who are licensed or certified by the State of Washington:

  • Registered Dietitian
  • Speech/Language Pathologist
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Occupational Therapist

Families are provided with practical solutions to feeding issues.

Feeding Group

For some children, working on feeding skills in a group situation works well. The agency has a feeding group for children who have a history of feeding difficulties, which might be secondary to gastro esophageal reflux, extreme prematurity and/or long-term feeding tube dependence. Parent and child are involved and asked to commit to weekly participation for a three month period. The feeding group provides relaxed and enjoyable experiences with foods so that children can explore and learn the wonderful process of eating with their peers.

Program Gets High 5!

An increasing number of children are being diagnosed with autism at younger ages. To respond to this growing need, Infant Toddler Program staff worked with staff at the University of Washington Baby DATA project to develop a program for Holly Ridge Center. Children with a diagnosis of autism or autism spectrum disorder may participate in this program and it is called "High-5". Many techniques are used in this intensive program to enhance communication, play, motor and social skills. Children receive educational and therapeutic services to meet their individual needs; each child's program is designed to build on their skills and is created with input obtained from their family and professional evaluations. In the short time since High-5 began, staff and parents have witnessed dramatic improvements in the children's skills.
